AMOUDARA - AGIA PELAGIA

 

Amoudara est un village et un ressort touristique réputé pour sa plage, à 7 km à l'ouest de Héraklion, la capitale de la Crète, au milieu du bassin méditerranéen. Avec ses 5 km de sable fin, la plage d'Amoudara est la plus longue plage du district de Héraklion. Agia Pelagia est un village de pêcheurs construit dans le centre d'une baie pittoresque, au nord-ouest d'Heraklion. Il doit son nom à l'église, dans le Monastère du Sebbathians, dont les ruines se situent à 1 km à l'ouest du village. On y trouve des tombes post-minoan. C'est dans la grotte voisine "Evresi" qu'a été retrouvée l'icône d'Agia Pelagia selon la légende.

 

Amoudara is a village and a tourist spring renowned for his beach, in 7 km on the West of Heraklion, the capital of Crete, in the middle of Mediterranean Basin. With its 5 km of fine sand, the beach of Amoudara is the longest beach of the district of Heraklion.

Agia Pelagia is a seaside fishing village built in the centre of a picturesque amphitheatric bay, 23 km northwest from Heraklion capital city of the island of Crete.

It takes its name from the homonymous church, in the Monastery of the Sebbathians, ruins of which are found at a distance of 1 km west of the village. In Agia Pelagia there are the post-minoan graves. Also there is a nearby cave, with the name "Evresi", where - according to legend - local people found the icon of Agia Pelagia.
